English Definition
biol. A male sex hormone, such as testosterone, secreted by the testes. Androgens are responsible for the maintenance of sperm production, muscular development and aspects of sexual behaviour. Small amounts of androgens are also found in females, and are responsible in part for stimulating the growth of pubic hair.
